The last 3 weeks of school

Good morning every one we are your blogga loggas Sithum and Jordyn. Welcome to term 2!
First of all we will be talking about the forty hour famine.

Yesterday during year 5 and 6 team assembly a lovely lady called Laura, came in to talk about poor people and how they live and survive in Bangladesh and how we could help them by doing the 40 hour famine.

The 40 hour famine is a fundraiser for people that can't afford to live healthy like us . So we would like you to give up something in your life such as furniture , speaking , eating , technology all for 20 to 40 hours. You get sponsored for every hour you give something up and the money raised is for the children that need the help from us so they can live like us

Our next topic will be on the big Easter Egg hunt. We paired up with our buddy class, we made some paper baskets a few days before the hunt . We each got handed a printed picture of Easter eggs. Each clue we found had a coulor on it after we had found all the clues we ran back to our buddy's class and coloured the picture .When the last one was finished  we got to go back to our buddy class . We had to find our easter baskets, we were surprised when we found our Easter baskets full of Easter eggs after all I had a tummy ache.

Up next is A.V.A.I.L.L.L.

Availll is a type of reading where you watch a movie with subtitles on, your teacher pauses the movie and you write the subtitle that it last said.We are very excited for this activity we hope you are too.

We are all running every day to get fit for the Angry Nation(aka Cross Country). It's on next week and Estella and Fintan seem to be the speedy ones at this stage, Everyone is improving.

We are learning about Anzac Day, and some children have brought along information about family members who were in one of the world wars.

Yesterday was Anna's birthday, Sithum's is soon, he is very excited, and promises to bring Mr Williams a big piece of birthday cake!

That's all for this week,

Sithum and Jordyn.

Anna talked about Rabbits, and brought them to show us. Our classroom has been like a zoo!!

We got to Blue Skies by bus. At Blue Skies we started off with a fitness track. Then we did some challenges, a confidence course and some fitness activities There was an amazing flying fox, a Tarzan rope, and heaps more! After that we tried some initiatives. They were really hard!

All in all, I think Blue Sky's was a great field trip!

Acrostic Poems have now been finished

Acrostic poems were really fun and really creative.

Maths Interchange is zooming along and is lots of fun.

We are just starting to sketch our self portraits, and we have already discovered that Thomas is a talented artist.

Read this First

Hello and welcome, this is Aliana and Thomas your blogger loggers for this week. Here are some things that have happened the past weeks.

1. Treaties

Last week we did treaties between people in our families. One of the common agreements involved bedtimes. They were all ripped up, stained, and burnt which made them look magnificent.

2. Media Super Stars

Four of the children from RM 24 were invited to sing in the Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony with Hayley Westenra in the children's special choir of 100 children from around Christchurch! The first practise was on Saturday and the last practise was on Wednesday. Did you see any of us on TV?

3. P.T and B.R

Mr Williams chooses people to do Prepared Talks and Book Reviews each day. One of the best so far is Estella. The goal for P.T and B.R is to be confident in front of an audience. For Book Reviews we bring a book to school to review. For Prepared Talks we bring something in to talk about.

4. Estella's Clarinet

For Prepared Talks Estella Wallace decided to talk about her Clarinet. We learned that the Clarinet is a very mind-blowingly complicated instrument. Her prepared talk went for 6 min and 46 secs. Wow OMG.

5. Aquagym Swimming

"Uhhhh ohhh uhhh ohhh uhhh ohhh" drip drip drip drip. Hi blog readers I just came out of the pool. This week we are doing Aquagym swimming. There is 2 pools, the BIG pool and the little pool. We go to Aquagym at 9:00 am.

6. School Councillors

Mr Williams showed us how to look for the sugar content on the side of the bottle and we were horrified to find out how much sugar Fizzy has in it. The bottles we brought are for the Fair. People brought fizzy, shampoo, soy sauce .

We have started to write our own stories. The title is called "Getting Lost".You could also call it Getting Lost, the story of whatever you want. First we had to make a plan so we don't forget what the plot of our story. The results were great and Mr Williams and Mrs Bateman  were very impressed

Yay....It's Athletics day next week. We are practicing our high jump ,sprints, long jump, shot put ,relay, and discus. The days we practise  are Tuesdays and Fridays. Noooo!! The tests  are starting soon today or next week I hope its next week on Friday. We do the P.A.T test and a math test ,and the worst off all the I KAN test which goes really fast, and the PAT reading test.

Some people are so happy that Hagley sport is starting today the people that are going are Jake, Beau, Will, Archie, George, Nikau and Jamie. Oh no, seat shifting might start for the people that are talking like the giggly girls that  giggle and talk too much and  Quillan ,Nikau and Kegan.

Room 24 are doing the stall for the sausage sizzle for the fair we hope that more parents can help because we only have 2 people so far that can help run the stall. Agggghhhh... the Dental truck is here I hope it's not our turn today or tomorrow most people have gone but they didn't won't to go ever  there becuase you get this yuky thing in your mouth.

Hi I'm Koby and I'm Casey we are your bloggerloggers for this week and we are going to tell you the exciting things that have happened recently starting with  the runathon. The aim was to raise money for camp. We had to run around a course in the playground for 20 mins, it was tiring but on the other hand it was very fun. Owen managed to do 26 laps which is amazing, the highest in year 5 and 6. Most people  did more laps than expected. We have raised $310 so far, but most people have not brought back their money. Mr Williams is counting all our money and we hope to raise $1,000. Most people got between 16-19laps, Casey did 14 and Koby did 20. Beau raised the most money in our class Kegan did the most laps in our class with 22 laps .Anton did really well with 8 laps and Mr Williams was very proud of all of us.

We have finished the reading programme called AVAILLL, and we are having a test next week to see how much progress we have made. We all loved watching the movies, and we hope that most of our reading skills have improved.

Athletics has started and we have been practicing on Tuesdays and Fridays. We are doing discus, shot put, relays, high jump, long jump and sprints. In sprints we have handicap races to make it fair for everyone and make the results a lot closer and more even. Koby seems to be the fastest at the moment!

We did some Spring paintings during the week and Will  Emma and George have discovered chess, which Mr Williams is helping them with.

That's all for this week, only one week until the holidays!!

This is Charles, sometimes known as Chas or King Charles, with all his soccer/football awards

Soccer A, Soccer B, Netball A, Netball B, Hockey A, Hockey B, Rugby, they all played their last game on Friday.                                                                                                 On Monday Quillan Dextar, Jake Dickey and Joshua Kitchingham did kapahaka at the cultural festival. We had practiced all Friday morning and all Monday. Now it was time to go home for 2 hours. When we came back to school at 5 'O' Clock we came inside to get in our Kapahaka uniform, the boys had to wear skirts (well that's what it looked like to me)and ear rings and the girls wore dress's, 2 ear rings feathers and belts. I had a late but great night. We watched" Bridge to Terebithia" for A.V.A.I.L.L.L. and we have just finished it . During the 2 hours we played 2 games one was spin the bottle and the other one was a dance party that was fun .One helper gave out free b's so you collected  a small coke.  The parents who helped are Marina's daddy, Archie's mummy, Will's mummy Eden's mummy and Max's mummy.  We've been doing our post cards for report writing, some of them are looking fantastic. Some people did post cards from faraway like Mexico, Russia, South Africa,  South pole and London. First we needed to write where we are, who to  and 5 thing about the place. Then draw an amazing picture to make it look nice.
Then we give it to fabulous Mr Williams and he does his magic  but we have to do FIFTY-FIVE of them .Each person does two but Nikau did three ;)

We even started our innovation. Our topic is what people made that changed the way people did things, we had four things to choose out of diorama, computer, posters and booklet. Wonderful  Marina and Leia finished theirs, their topic was cameras. They put a lot of effort in it

We had finished the movie HOLES it was funny :) and sad :(  its about Stanlay Yelnats getting sent to Camp Green Lake but he meets a boy called ZERO actual name (Hector Zeroni ) and that's all we're going to tell you, don't wanna be SPOILER.

On 21st of August  the year 4 had a bake sale in the  U. There were lot of thing to choose from like sushi, cake, cup cakes, muffins etc.  Some classes went with their cute buddies, room 24 helped them with change and some buddies  bought lots and lots of treats, hope your teeth are not rotten ;)

On Tuesday Elena and Shayan did a play on Antarctica with the other ESOL children. It was excellent it must have been hard to memorise all the words.
